Section 14 Katie pp. 245-266. Summary

Katie finishes the diary. The tears flow and won't stop. Her dog, Merlin, watches her and whines trying to comfort her. The pain in her chest because of her aching for Matt won't stop. She sees the letter with her name on it taped to the last page of the diary. Matt tells her of his mourning and that he couldn't be comforted. He doesn't say much more but Katie knows she has to find him and talk to him.

Since Katie never believed in quitting, she goes to the Vineyard the next day. She rides the ferry, the Islander. When she realizes she doesn't have a manuscript to read, she relaxes and enjoys the trip. She thinks about Matt being a glass ball and wonders if he is damaged or shattered.
