Chapters 23 and 24 Summary
Sutton follows Donald's directions. He knocks on the door and a young woman answers with blue eyes and ash-blonde hair. Sutton finds out that it's Bess's granddaughter. She also tells him that Bess and her mother, Sarah, are both dead. Kate tells Sutton that she knows who he is and that her grandmother spoke about him all the time.
As they continue to talk, Sutton starts to babble. Kate tells him she doesn't understand what he's saying because Bess was eloping with Happy, not Sutton.
It's eleven years later. the reporter is in Florida, which is where Willie Sutton died just a few months prior. Willie lived longer than he did or anyone else thought he would. Willie and the reporter ended up becoming friends over the years. The reporter is there trying to find Willie's final manuscript.
