Chapter 18 Summary

Willie meets a man, Tick Tock, who tells him about a way to escape the prison through the sewer pipe. Willie and three other lifers go down into the sewer. Willie ends wading through waste and feces that reach to his nose but he is not able to find the way out. Willie then meets two other men that he finds out are on a crew digging a tunnel out of the prison. Willie joins the crew and they are able to dig a hundred foot tunnel out of the prison, which takes them a year to complete. When they finally finish and escape through the tunnel, all of the men are eventually caught or turn themselves in.
