Chapters 21, 20, 19 & 18 Summary
As a part of his new weekly television show, Tender sits down with a well-known journalist for an interview. The show is called Peace of Mind. It was actually Fertility who told him that he would one day be famous and have a show. She also made him promise that he would never sell her out. Although he will betray his religion and family, she does not want him to betray her. On this particular taping, the journalist is asking Tender about his childhood. For every question she poses to him, Tender reads the answer off of the teleprompter. The screen is prompting him to say that his childhood was terrible. It says that he was sexually abused and humiliated. He reads that church elders then killed children. On full moons, they only wore their children's bare skins and danced by firelight. The...
