The Framed Picture

The Framed Picture, featured in the essay "Records" is the photo that Sarah took while in New York. It is a photo of a couple on the sidewalk. When Sarah sneaks out of the hotel, she encounters two men who coax her into taking the photo and into a diner where the men want to take her somewhere. Sarah knows that she is in danger and works to get away from the men. When one of the men insists on her staying, the other relents and tells his friend they should let her go.

Sarah is not proud of the photo and does not like that she was forced into taking it. She does not tell anyone what happened that night. Instead, she frames the photo and hangs it up to remind her of what she was forced to do and how she survived the...
