Chapters 4-8 Summary
In chapter 4, Elvis hears back from his newspaper friend and learns that Rossi is a highly ambitious cop who made a mistake a few years back. Rossi forgot to Mirandize a suspect before he confessed. The confession was thrown out and the guy walked. However, Rossi has never been proven guilty of any other means of corruption. Later that morning, Elvis goes out to Terminal Island to talk to LeCedrick Earle, the career criminal who accused Rossi of planting counterfeit money on him after he tried to bribe her during a traffic stop. Earle tells Elvis his story again, but there are so many holes in it that Elvis finds it non-credible.
In chapter 5, Elvis goes to visit LeCedrick Earle's mother. Mrs. Earle lives in a small house in Olympic Park. When Elvis arrives, Mrs. Earle has a visitor she calls...
