New York City
The Woolsey family lives at 8 Brevoort Place in New York City, and many of the scenes take place here as they go about their daily lives. Early in the novel, Georgy goes to the enormous New York Hospital to apply for a job as a nurse. They attend parties and several of the settings are described in detail. Jemma is at an orphanage when a mob strikes and destroys the building. Some of the sisters take part in an event to raise money for the troops, including Georgy who sells copies of her book and Jemma who sells bonnets.
