Summary

Chapter 58 is from Anne-May's perspective. Anne-May is searching the pantry for the book when Euphemia arrives. Euphemia is sad to learn that Anne-May forced Jemma back here. Anne-May suddenly realizes that Euphemia is pregnant. She confirms Fergus is the father. Euphemia apologizes but Anne-May says she “can't stand the sight of him” (480). When she learns the situation with LeBaron's friends, Euphemia insists that Anne-May do something to help Jemma. Euphemia notes that Anne-May is a good shot, having spent a lot of time hunting with their father. Euphemia points out that Jubal might be there, and that Jemma might tell him where the book is before she dies giving Jubal the opportunity to turn on Anne-May.
