Summary
Chapter 28 is from Georgy's perspective, taking place in July of 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Georgy remembers traveling by carriage with her parents once, the only child present for that trip. She had commented that the moon was “chasing” them and her father hugged her, assuring her of his protection. Georgy returns to the present. She and Mrs. Woolsey discuss the situation with their carriage driver who knows that the wounded and dying have overwhelmed the medical staff. He talks about the battle as well. Georgy and Mrs. Woolsey talk to a private who is also overwhelmed by the number of casualties arriving. He has possessions that belong to a man he believes might be Charles.
