Part 3: Chapters 73-80 Summary
Michael is drawn to a specific room in New York Hospital. However, when he arrives there, he is shocked - though the reader doesn't yet know why. In Chapter 74, however, it is Vivienne, and not Jane, who is in the hospital bed. He comforts her, and helps her arrange her appearance to make herself feel better. She asks for Jane, who is, meanwhile, receiving a message from her former assistant, Mary-Louise, about her mother's condition. In Chapter 75, Jane goes to see her mother in the hospital and finds Michael beside her. In the following chapter, Vivienne apologizes to Jane for being so cold throughout her life, and says how proud she is of her daughter.
