Dealing with Grief
The loss of a loved one is difficult under any circumstances. When a tragic accident takes the life of more than one loved one, the grief is even more devastating. Each person left behind handles the overwhelming grief in their own way by summoning coping mechanisms.
Cedar's father and younger brother were killed when a drunk driver crashed into their car. Cedar is comforted by the fact that members of her family share her memories of her father. Thus, sharing becomes one way they cope with their grief. Each member of the family is able to understand that about the others without having to specifically discuss their grief.
