Summary
In “Young Girl,” on their walk to the Field and Oar, the club where Jessie will take tennis lessons, Jessie notices her grandmother seems particularly happy and takes the opportunity to ask why Mr. Crimmins is living in Little Fair. Exalta explains he needed more room with his grandson, and goes on to share that Mr. Crimmins daughter, Lorraine, once cooked and cleaned for her. She will tell Jessie only that Lorraine’s time working for her did not end well.
At the club, Jessie is offended to learn that the employees do not recognize her by the last name Levin. Exalta announces that Jessie’s last name is Nichols. Jessie believes that it is another sign that her grandmother does not like her father and wonders if David could even get a membership at the club because...
