Meier Summer House
The majority of the novel focuses on the few summer days when the Schlosser family stays at the Meier family's summer house. The summer house is located somewhere outside the Netherlands, and is about a day's worth of driving away from the Schlosser family home. At the summer house, the Meier family (Ralph, Judith, Alex, and Thomas), Judith's mother Vera, and family friends Stanley and Emmanuelle all sleep in different rooms in the house, while the Schlosser family sleeps in their tent in the backyard. Although Marc initially wanted to be close to the house in order to pursue Judith, he shares Caroline's opinion that it is a bit of a stressful vacation, as they are constantly surrounded by people, and somewhat forced into different activities by Ralph and his large personality.
