Dr. Marc Schlosser
Marc Schlosser is the husband of Caroline and the father of Julia and Lisa. Marc is also the first-person narrator of the novel, and many of the novel's pages explore his blunt and counterintuitive opinions about his work and life. Marc works as a general practitioner doctor, and his clientele has grown to largely consist of upper-class creatives, a group of people who Marc privately despises. Marc's apparently cynical attitude towards the world is frequently undercut by both his errors in judgment, and also by his empathetic and caring attitude around his daughters.
When taking his family on a camping trip, Marc intentionally books a campground near the Meier summer home, as he intends to pursue an affair with Judith Meier.
