Chapters 1 and 2 Summary

Danny Walker is a 13-year-old boy who lives for basketball. During the summer following his 8th grade year, he and his closest friends, Will Stoddard and Ty Ross, are heading for an elite basketball camp where Danny knows that although he's always been a star player, his short height will force him to prove himself and his skills once again.

Danny's father, Richie Walker, had been a star player in grade school, high school and college, and played in the NBA until a car accident ended his career. Danny seems to be following in his father's footsteps, including his physical size. Richie's basketball success came in spite of being under 5'10" tall and this summer finds Danny worrying about his own short stature.
