Summary
Stuart continues his journey and finds himself in the town of Ames Crossing. He considers this town is “the most peaceful and beautiful spot,” thinking “he would gladly spend the rest of his life [there], if it weren’t that he might get homesick for the sights of New York and for his family… and … for the fact that something deep inside him made him want to find Margalo” (101). Stuart asks a storekeeper if he has seen Margalo. The storekeeper says no, but tells Stuart he should meet Harriet Ames, a girl who is Stuart’s height. Stuart politely declines, saying he must find Margalo.
