Summary
In the Prologue, a girl with blue skin fell from the sky in the city of Weep. This provoked those who witnessed the fall to spread embellished rumors. All those who saw the girl screamed when they realized that she was blue because this symbolized something to the people of Weep. The girl’s ghost appeared beside her corpse, where a flock of moths had gathered. At this, a statue on the other side of the city lifted its head.
Chapter 1, the beginning of Part I, opened with a third-person narrator following Lazlo Strange, who was musing about names that he had lost or could no longer remember.
