Geneva

Geneva is the primary setting for the short story "Bon Voyage, Mr. President." After living with an inexplicable pain for some time, the President travels to Geneva to see new doctors. At the story's start, he has been in this Swiss city for six weeks. He has recently learned that the only way to resolve the pain in his spine, is to undergo a dangerous and expensive surgery. Because of his ailing state, the President is prone to reflectiveness while here. He remembers how different the city was when he was young and powerful.

Throughout the President's time in Geneva, he meets and befriends the couple Homero and Lázara. Although the couple initially wants to use the President for his money, they end up helping the President throughout his sickness. After he recovers from the operation, he leaves Geneva, but continues writing to the couple.
