Summary

In “Heartsick Beasts,” the narrator explained that her professor had created the beasts in the lab of the biology department 20 years ago. They were exceptionally adorable and kept as pets by only the wealthiest families. They were considered excellent companions for children. The most important people in the city had been raised alongside heartsick beats.

The narrator’s cousin called and declared she was purchasing a beast for her niece, Lucia. The narrator went to the mall with them, and Lucia told the merchant she wanted her beast, Lulu, to look like her aunt.

After, the narrator went to the Dolphin Bar where Zhong Liang told her he had fallen in love with a girl from his dreams. They went to the police station so he could get a drawing of the girl. The narrator laughed and recognized the girl...
