Chapters 12-13 Summary

Skink and Max are sitting on the unsteady porch of stilt house in the middle of a bay. This is where they are scheduled to meet Bonnie. Bonnie approaches the house on a boat that Augustine borrowed from a friend. When they come close enough to dock, Bonnie hands Skink a bag full of the things he asked for as ransom, including batteries for his Walkman. Skink then instructs Max to remove the collar from around his neck, but Max is unable to do it due to his deep fear of being shocked. Bonnie does it for him. Skink then allows Max to board the boat, but he grabs Bonnie before she can jump aboard and unties the boat, pushing it away. However, Augustine and Bonnie have not been alone on the boat.
