Chapter 11 Summary
In the back of a U-Haul truck, Skink gives Max a lecture on how he needs a legacy, something that people will remember long after he is gone. At the same time, Ira Jackson has learned that Avila was the building inspector who was supposed to have checked his mother's mobile home. Avila was assigned to mobile homes while under investigation for taking bribes and failing to look over the roofs of buildings he inspected. This same night, Snapper is pulled over for speeding by a female state trooper. Snapper attempts to talk his way out of the ticket but it quickly becomes clear the woman intends to run his license plate. Since Snapper is almost positive the car is stolen and does not want to be arrested, he beats the woman unconscious and steals her gold wedding band.
