Chapter 9 Summary
After Skink allows Max to make a few phone calls, they move on, spending the night in a barn. Skink offers Max a cigarette and becomes angry when he learns that Max does not smoke even though his biggest client is a cigarette brand. Skink forces Max to smoke an entire carton of Bronco cigarettes. Bonnie, in the meantime, is sleeping in Augustine's arms. Bonnie wakes, feeling guilty despite the fact that nothing sexual happened. Bonnie quickly gets out of bed and makes breakfast for both of them. Before they can enjoy the meal, the morgue calls and asks Bonnie to come look at another body.
