Chapter 8 Summary
This chapter details the circumstances of the initial meeting between Bonnie and Max, who met when Max was hired to do advertising for a cereal that Bonnie's company produced. Bonnie and Max worked together on the campaign, a campaign Max thought was brilliant while Bonnie thought it mundane. However, through the course of working on this campaign, Max fell in love with Bonnie and they began to date. Max was so different from any other man Bonnie had ever dated. Max took work seriously where all of Bonnie's other boyfriends had failed to achieve decent jobs. Bonnie felt as though she had found the kind of man her mother wanted her to marry, but discovered, ironically enough, that her mother disliked Max. Bonnie stuck with the relationship, however, despite finding Max boring and as mundane as his campaign slogan.
