Constance Starr is a famous and well-loved fantasy writer, noted mainly for her “Alphinland” stories and novels. Constance is reeling from the death of her husband in “Alphinland”, and fantasizes that he is still alive, speaking to her, and helping to take care of her. Constance recalls events of the past, including a very sexual relationship with famous poet Gavin Putnam from many years before. At Gavin’s funeral, she makes peace with Jorrie, with whom Constance had feuded for decades about who drove who away from Gavin.
