Summary

In Chapter 13, Wren, Oak, and Tiernan are struggling through brutal winter conditions near the Stone Forest. They try to avoid the forest itself because of terrible enchantments on that place. They find several heads mounted on pikes, including some that still speak. They arrive at a cave that has some old provisions. Wren learns more about the time that Tiernan came here to get Hyacinthe, who had been accused of being a spy. Wren realizes now that Tiernan has been with Hyacinthe since before Madoc was kidnapped. Wren feels there is still missing information. While Oak and Tiernan struggle with the intense cold, Wren feels more alive and awake than normal, a reminder that she was made of snow. Tiernan talks more about his early relationship with Hyacinthe, including the pledges typical of those in love. Tiernan had rescued Hyacinthe from the Citadel...
