Summary
In Chapter 5, Oak mounts the kelpie horse and Tiernan helps Wren up behind Oak. They ride for hours. When they stop to make camp, Wren gathers some mushrooms and garlic while Tiernan and Oak set up camp. While they eat, Oak tells stories of ridiculous pranks and other stories of life in the court. Wren asks what they expect to get from the Thistlewitch. She wants to know, but she also wants to know if they trust her with the information. Oak says he hopes to learn about the magic of Mab's bones. They ride again the next day until they reach a castle that seems one-dimensional – the entrance to the Court of Moths. The kelpie leaves his horse form and introduces himself as Jack of the Lakes. Hyacinthe quietly gives Wren another warning about Oak. Wren silently thinks there is no reason...
