Summary

In Chapter 8, Gwen is awakened the next morning by a scream. A couple in a rowboat has found a body floating in the lake. Gwen calls 911 even though she knows she will probably be arrested and accused of the crime. At the same time, she gets a text message from Absalom giving her a link to a person who claims to have located “Melvin’s Little Helper” (173). She realizes that Melvin did not take her threat seriously and that she and her family are no longer safe.

Gwen does what she can to help the couple who found the body. When Prester arrives, she tells him that someone has found out where they live and that they have had death threats. Sam comes out of his cabin and walks to Gwen. She tells him that their location has been leaked and asks him...
