Summary
In Chapter 11, Louisa wrote a letter to her nephew Thom. She went to Grand Pines Country Club with Agnes. Agnes had to give a retirement gift to Mary Lander, a long-serving staff member of the country club, since Mr. Gopnik was working. Agnes sat across from Kathryn Gopnik, Mr. Gopnik’s first wife. When Louisa went to the bathroom, Kathryn asked her about Mr. Gopnik’s wellbeing. Louisa defended Agnes’ character. Back at the table, Agnes presented Mary with her retirement gift, after giving a short speech about Mary’s time at the country club.
