Maggie Richter
Maggie Richter is the novel’s narrator and protagonist. Her exact age is not stated, but she seems to be in her early thirties. She is originally from Vermont. When she was younger, she aspired to be a journalist. However, when she collaborated with a reporter to expose local drug smuggling operations, her best friend Nikki was killed, because Nikki was involved in the operations, and the other drug smugglers thought that she informed on them.
