Summary

The detectives went to the Croft’s house after the lab results showed that the arrow and bow they had found in the Crofts basement had Jane Neal’s blood on it. Philippe’s clothing was also covered in her blood. Gamache told the Crofts that he believed Philippe accidentally killed Jane and he would not be charging Philippe with manslaughter but with mischief. Gamache and Philippe’s provincial guardian, Claude Guimette, talked to Philippe who claimed that his father was responsible. He stated that he got the blood on his clothing from helping his dad clean up the evidence. Gamache asked Philippe to lift up his sleeves and notes a bruise like the one Beauvoir got when he shot the arrow. Philippe claimed the bruise was from his dad hitting him.
