Summary

Peter and Clara had their friends over for dinner. Peter was in a bad mood as Clara had not invited him when she went to the woods. Clara informed her friends about what she discussed with Gamache, that Jane was murdered by a local, skilled bow hunter. Ruth informed Clara that Matthew Croft’s house had been searched. Ben told everyone that the blind in the woods had been built by Matthew’s father. Clara told the others she does not believe Matthew was responsible. The group discussed why would someone murder Jane and Myrna stated it was usually for money or power. Later Ben catches Peter and Clara in the kitchen after Peter accuses Clara of not trusting him. Ben felt uncomfortable, catching them with “their anger and pain…fully exposed” (211). Clara apologized later after their friends had left and Peter accepted it...
