Summary
Gamache was notified of a homicide in Three Pines after receiving a call from detective Yvette Nichol. Nichol recently got accepted into the Sûreté and she is determined to be a success and distance herself from a disgraced uncle and dead family members in Czechoslovakia. Unbeknownst to Nichol, this family history was fabricated by her father, which he regretted making up after seeing his daughter leave for a homicide investigation. Nichol was excited to be working with Gamache as he was well known within her department. They drove to the picturesque Three Pines, mostly in silence. When they arrived, there was a group of people congregating outside the police tape, curious as to what was happening. Gamache was greeted by Jean Guy Beauvoir, his second in command, as well as a local agent who told him that Benjamin Hadley had found the body...
