The Headpiece

The headpiece Sarah creates and then later finds destroyed in the novel is symbolic of her talent as an artist. The headpiece is one of her most original creations. Sarah puts not only creative and imaginative energy into it, but also physical toil. When she is done with the headpiece, her fingers are bruised and bloody from the work she's done with the wires that make it up. She has quite literally poured everything of herself into this piece of art. It is not surprising, then, the piece is exceptional. It displays all of her promise and talent. When it is stolen and then later discovered destroyed, Sarah loses the ability to create more art.
