Sarah (16 years old)

Sarah is the protagonist and main character of this novel. She is sixteen years old and gifted with art. She lives in Philadelphia with her mother, Helen, and father, Chet. Her older brother Bruce has not lived with the family for six years. At the beginning of he novel, Sarah is on the cusp of an existential crisis. She finds herself unable to do art and unwilling to go to school, so she spends her days wandering the city, taking random busses, and even following a homeless man (Earl) for a period of time.
