Summary

In "It’s Just the Way of Things", Alys turned seventeen in the summer of 1972. She lived in East London and worked at Col’s pub before pursuing an artistic degree at Wimbledon School of Art. She attended a lecture given by Evelyn and reconnected with the woman she had met years ago, in Florence. Later on, Cress was heartbroken after his lady friend’s death and Peggy and Col travelled to Florence to console him. Peggy stayed in Alys’ old room, and she was acutely aware of how callously she let her daughter go. She knew that she kept her daughter at a distance because she reminded her of Eddie. At the end of the chapter, Aly returned to Florence and was happily reunited with her...
