Summary
At the beginning of "The Most Unlikely-Looking Pair", Evelyn Skinner was teaching at the Slade School of Fine Art, in London. She spent time with her good friend Dotty Cunningham, who was a renowned painter. Dotty “invariably fell in love with love and the inspiration it brought” and moved flittingly between romantic trysts as she painted (208). One evening, when the friends were sharing dinner, Evelyn suggested that they travel to Florence as a diversion. After they arrive in Tuscany, Dotty traverses the streets sketching people and scenery while Evelyn meandered about to admire the artwork. Evelyn thought about her mother who “gave to others the freedom she could never take for herself” (223).
