Mexico City

The entire novel takes place against the backdrop of Mexico City and its many vibrant neighborhoods. Both of the protagonists were born and raised in Mexico City but spent significant time abroad in Europe. Topical issues affecting Mexico City such as sex-based violence are brought into the narrative.

Chapultepec Park

Laura often takes Nico to the park to walk around and get fresh air to help his mood. He enjoys seeing the animals and Laura looks forward to spending time with him.

Paris

Laura studied in Paris in her early 20s and enjoyed Europe and the freedom she felt as a woman outside of Mexico. She spent hours in libraries, going to the theater, and hanging out in bars and nightclubs. She made many friends there who were sad to see her go back to Mexico to finish her thesis there.
