Summary
In their sixth session, Alicia asks Dr. Cohen about his daughter, and he tells her that her name is Rachel. Alicia suggests that names can be reflective of character, and speculates about Rachel - that she is sad, and thoughtful. Dr. Cohen changes the subject by asking if there’s anything she has never told an analyst before. She tells him that before coming to Stella Maris she drove around a lot, staying in cheap motels and doing lots of reading. The Kid would visit her occasionally.
Alicia then recalls a summer she spent together with her brother in Tennessee, after she came back from her first year at college. She was fourteen, and she tells Dr. Cohen that they “started dating” (160). They would go out and dance, and Bobby would play with live bar bands. She admits that she wanted...
