Rialla is the child of the nomadic Traders. She is raised with her clan, helping her father train horses. Rialla has the talent of empathy, meaning that she can sense and communicate with the emotions of the people and animals around her. When Rialla is a teenager and engaged to be married to a boy she has met once, slave traders attack her clan and kill almost everyone.
