Chapter 7 Summary
Rialla knows that she will be punished for running away, but Lord Winterseine does not want to damage or scar her. After he makes her wait in chains for several hours, Rialla is taken to a place for solitary confinement. She is forced into an earthen hole in the wall, about the size of a coffin, and locked in for a day. It is not as bad as it could be, for her empathic ability makes her able to extend her consciousness out to the people and animals around her. In the next cell is another slave, frantic with fear. Rialla practices her skills by calming the girl and letting her sleep. When they are pulled out of their holes, the other girl looks terrible, but Rialla is all right.
