Point of View
The novel is told from the first-person perspective from the two characters Yejide and Akin. Each chapter tells the story completely from that person’s perspective, with 28 chapters told from Yejide’s point of view, and 14 from Akin’s point of view. The chapters do not follow any particular pattern of point of view, but switch between the two of them intermittently. Often it is not entirely clear whose voice is speaking in the chapter until a few paragraphs into the chapter. The narrative mostly follows in chronological order, with the exception of the first chapter of each part. Each character often has flashbacks throughout the novel to previous experiences and memories.
