Summary
Chapters 40 to 42 are the entirety of Part 4 of the novel. Chapter 40 starts from Yejide’s perspective after she has arrived in Ilesa in December 2008. Yejide thinks about how she has wanted to ask Akin for so long about Rotimi’s death but has been unable. She sees him getting ready for the funeral and testing microphones. She sees a teenage girl standing near him who looks like Akin. She turns to see Yejide and Yejide notices a crucifix on her neck.
Chapter 41 changes to Akin’s perspective as he thinks about the reunion with Yejide. When Yejide asks him who Rotimi is, he thinks “She prefers to be called Timi, says she is her own person, not a monument to siblings she never knew. I agree” (289).
