Summary
Chapter 36 starts from Akin’s perspective as he learns that Rotimi, like her brother before her, also has sickle-cell disease. Yejide has no reaction to the news, and when Rotimi has her first episode she refuses to go to the hospital with Akin. At the hospital, Rotimi asks him to tell the story about the tortoises (the story told in chapter 35) only this time he finishes the story. The story ends with the Babalawo taking pity on Ijapa for the sake of his wife Iyannibo, and giving him a potion to return his stomach to normal. In Akin’s version, he does not tell Rotimi the ending his Moomi told in which Iyannibo finally has a baby.
