Summary
Chapter 17 mostly consists of a folktale Yejide reshapes and tells Olamide and the reader. Growing up with four mothers, Yejide heard her fair share of stories. Her favorite story involved a woman named Oluronbi and the Iroko tree. Yejide tells the reader she did not like the original version where Oluronbi exchanged her first child to be the most successful saleswoman in the market, so she changed it to fit what she would like. A long time ago a woman named Oluronbi lived in a village with her family. One day her family went missing and when she searched for them she met the Iroko tree. She makes a deal that if the tree tells her where her family is, she will give the tree her first child. The tree releases her family and soon after Oluronbi gives birth to a girl, but...
