Summary
In Georgia’s Take on Red Flags and Riot Grrrl Courage, Georgia writes about how women and girls are socialized to be polite, accommodating, and deferential "to the detriment of their own wants, needs, and safety" (29). A month after her high school graduation, Georgia moved to LA from her hometown of Orange County and began working as a waitress. She flashes back to her upbringing and describes how she received many subconscious messages about womanhood and self-worth. These included an emphasis on being skinny and on being in a long-term relationship as markers of success and sources of personal validation.
