Sara and Callie are taken to the infirmary. Mrs. Beatty returns in an hour and asks the doctor to finish with Callie so she can be taken to the gym. Once there, a number is taped to her chest. When the Old Man finishes his examination of both boys and girls, an Ender reads out the numbers of those chosen. Callie's number is chosen and she realizes she should try to escape. A guard threatens to use a ZipTaser on her but she gambles he won't dare damage the merchandise. Pretending to be the relief worker scheduled she hides in a laundry basket in the dark. Sara joins her there and helps Callie disguise herself as a gardener. While those chosen are loaded into a transport, Callie positions herself safely underneath, tucking up...
