Chapter 31 Summary

Leo doesn't go to the Ocotillo Ball with Stargirl. He rides his bike to the tennis courts of the Mica Country Club to watch from a distance. He notices the desert is changing. The desert flowers, so abundant earlier in the year, are fading now. Stargirl did go to the Ball. She arrived in a bicycle side care with Dori peddling the bicycle. Her dress is remarkable and her hair is incredible, done up in ringlets. She also wears a necklace that identifies her as a member of the Loyal Order of the Stone Bone. She is described as "Beautiful, Unusual, Interesting, Different, and Regal." A very ordinary student asks her to dance. After this many of the students became antsy. Then the band played the bunny hop and within seconds, Stargirl was leading a caravan of dancers who were thoroughly enjoying themselves...
