Chapters 8 - 9 Summary
By December, Stargirl has become the most popular person in school. The narrator speculates as to the reasons. Some think it is cheerleading, others think it is Hillari backlash. When a crowd gathers at the top of a stairwell, Leo goes to check it out and sees Hillari holding Cinnamon (Stargirl's pet rat) over the railing as if to drop him. A voice in the crowd says, "Don't, Hillary," and she drops Cinnamon at her feet, on the floor. We also meet Dori Dilson, an average-looking young lady who carries around a notebook full of poems, but she is Stargirl's friend.
Things seem to be changing all over Mica High. Students begin to copy Stargirl's good deeds. Cliques seem to disappear. Individuality erupts. Stargirl wins an oratory contest with a speech about the Elf Owl. Leo tells Archie that the transformation...
