Summary
At the frozen custard place, an overweight woman silently judges Eliana. She is confused by being disparaged by another fat person, but she knows that she is entitled to be judged because she is the fatter one. She has internalized this lesson since childhood. Catalina reveals she was worried that the lady was staring at them because she thought they were illegal immigrants. She tells Eliana how tired she is of being treated as "other".
The next day at school Eliana is tormented in gym class. The bullies hit her with balls during dodgeball and steal her clothes from the locker room. They accidentally rip her new shirt when trying it on and mock how large it is and Eliana shouts at them. They are surprised she stood up for herself but it does not make her feel better. Eliana feels mean.
