Septimus finds the remains of the broken chariot that had been the witch's inn as well as the bodies of the boy Brevis and his brother Primus. Septimus knows that now he must avenge the murder of his brother. The ghosts of his six dead brothers are there as well, and they agree.
Tristran and the star sit on the cloud and discuss their predicament. Tristran has burned his hand badly and the star seems to feel bad about it, yet she is also angry. The star explains to Tristran that because he has saved her life she is now bound to him. In a huff, the star finally reveals her name to Tristran. She is called Yvaine, as she is an evening...
